On Saturday the 14th our Rotary district held its Christmas Celebration at Douai Abbey. This is held every year across the Thames Valley by each year’s district governor in their area. It is also used to raise money for their charities which in the case of our District Governor Frank Quinn it is End Polio Now and Hope and Homes for Children.
Two of our club members attended and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere especially the reader who described the Cratchit’s dinner from Dickens Christmas Carol who made everyone laugh (you had to be there). The theme was the spirit of Christmas and you can read more about it in the link below.
The Pangbourne Choir did a great job of raising the roof of the Abbey with the help from everyone singing much-loved carols which included some new arrangements not heard before. There was a bucket collection at the end and it raised £565.00 for the charities. Then followed hot coffee and mince pies. It was a lovely afternoon all round.
