Club meeting with club speakers, 10th February 2015

We had a joint meeting with Oxford Rotaract on 10th February, with 4 club members – 2 from each club speaking about their jobs and careers. It was a really interesting, lively and entertaining evening and we learnt lots about our colleagues work skills and their interests.

We heard about a great range of work and career paths:

Caroline and Sarah told us about their work at Alere Toxicology at Milton Park near Didcot, a company that provides drug testing for the private and public sector, testing urine, hair and oral fluid samples. Sarah is also setting up a new catering business with a friend so we heard about the successs of their first wedding.

Aria works in Balliol College as Project Officer, managing and supporting alumni events and fundraising campaigns. University fundraising is a huge business that many people are not aware of. It was fascinating to hear about fundraising campaigns and the way in which the Oxford colleges work to engage with alumni.

Rich told us about his business Blue Spires IT Support, the second business that he has owned and built. He described his career and reasons for setting up on his own, and others at the club thinking of doing the same thing had lots of questions for him.
